Wollert Quarry
Wollert Quarry, located within the City of Whittlesea, has been in operation under Work Authority (WA) 393 since the 1970s. This Quarry is an essential supplier of basalt for construction and infrastructure projects across Melbourne, producing approximately 2 to 2.5 million tonnes annually.
The Quarry operates alongside the Wollert Landfill, owned and operated by Heidelberg Landfill Services Pty Ltd. Together, these operations form the Wollert Resource Park. For more information on the Wollert Landfill, visit: Wollert Landfill
Heidelberg Materials is currently in the process of preparing a Work Plan Variation application for submission to Resources Victoria seeking approval to extend the quarrying depth from its current approved depth of 20 metres below ground level, to 128 metres Australian Height Datum (AHD), or approximately 60 m below ground level. This proposal does not involve a lateral extension of the current quarry and landfill footprint. For more information see the Work Plan Variation section below.

Blast Notification Service
Heidelberg Materials operates a free opt-in SMS notification service. Registered community members receive direct notification 24 hours in advance of a scheduled blast at the quarry.

Stakeholder Reference Group (SRG)
The Wollert Quarry and Landfill Stakeholder Reference Group (SRG) has been active since 2022. The SRG meets quarterly to discuss ongoing operations, environmental and community matters, and to provide a form of two-way communication between residents, local stakeholders and the site operators.
We actively listen, share project updates and collaborate with community members to ensure transparent and meaningful engagement.

Waste Safari
In March 2025, Heidelberg Materials hosted a Waste Safari community open day, giving local residents the opportunity to learn about quarry and landfill operations and see the site's environmental initiatives up close. The event was attended by over 350 local residents.
The day included:
- Educational experiences: guided tours hosted by site personnel of the quarry and landfill, showcases of heavy mobile equipment, and representatives from the site available for queries or discussions on how the site operates. Exhibitor marquee, displaying information stalls from local community groups, industry organisations and government stakeholders was showcased.
- Family activities: face painting, jumping castle, dump truck simulators and gift bags were distributed.
- Food and Drinks: complementary lunch served by local caters and coffee cart.
